Elia Palazzesi

Elia's property lies in the heart of a wild Tuscan woodland, in the south-western area of Montalcino (Siena). On just 7 hectares, Elia Palazzesi is the first to produce wine for commercial sale from his family's century-old estate, which previously operated as a livestock and cereal farm, using the vines only for the family's own wine consumption.

An exceptional terroir and passion, the hallmarks of wines of excellence. Nearly a century after the founding of his estate, Elia Palazzesi produces as in the old days, guided by tradition; an added value today certified organic. The soils are rich in clay with sand and stone for good drainage. Elia draws the best from these alluvial soils, creating concentrated wines suited to long ageing. The climatic characteristics of the area require careful bunch thinning and very attentive canopy management during grape ripening, to protect them from the intense sunlight and the winds blowing from the sea. Elia personally carries out all these operations entirely by hand. Elia ages his wines in large barrels, with brief passages in smaller barrels to harmonise the wines first.

Capturing the midday warmth and the lush evening sun, this estate produces full-bodied and spiced wines, 4 labels in total: a Sangiovese, a Rosso di Montalcino that can rival many Brunellos, a Brunello and, in the best vintages, a Brunello Riserva.

My selection

From the wild heart of Montalcino, Elia brings to the bottle the soul of a century-old estate where every operation is still carried out strictly by hand.

Looking for absolute excellence? Let yourself be won over by his Brunello di Montalcino: a full-bodied, spiced and deep wine, capable of conveying the warmth of the Tuscan sun and the wisdom of ageing in large barrels that harmonizes every nuance. An unforgettable experience.

Salute!
